“Find great local deals”

Q: What can I do on Shpock?

Shpock works like your favourite boot sale – just easier. You can create your listing quickly by taking a picture, writing a title, a short description and setting a price. Voila! Now, Shpock users can see your listing, ask you questions, and make you a private offer. To speed up sales, you can share your listing via Facebook, Twitter, SMS or E-mail with your loved ones.

Did you find an item you want? Great, because with Shpock, it's quite simple to negotiate and agree upon a price, and where and when to pick-up/drop-off the item.

“Login with E-mail, Facebook or Google”

Q: I have problems logging in

Make sure that you are using the same type of login as you registered with, this could be with Facebook, Google or with your E-mail and password. If you registered with Facebook or Google, go to the login and click on “Login with Facebook” or “Login with Google”. If you registered with your E-mail, click on the “Log in with E-mail + SMS”and enter your E-mail and the password you chose when registering. If you have forgotten your password, click on “Forgot your password?” and follow the guidelines. When you registered with Facebook, then you cannot get a new password from Shpock and you cannot access Shpock if you delete or deactivate your Facebook account.

If you're still not able to login following these steps, please get in touch with our support team.

“Safe Marketplace”

Q: Why can I register only with Facebook, Google or E-mail plus SMS-confirmation?

Two quick taps on the screen and you are registered via Facebook or Google. It's that fast and simple.

Registration with E-Mail + SMS confirmation: To keep Shpock as secure as we can, we require that users registered via E-Mail also confirm her/his identity via an SMS confirmation. While registering, we'll ask you for your mobile number and will send you an SMS with a confirmation link for you to click on.

We hope that through these registration methods, we can also stop any annoying spammers and scammers – you've surely experienced the problem with other marketplaces!

“Use Shpock without Location Services”

Q: I don't want to share my location. Can I still use Shpock?

Yes! You can still explore a variety of items on Shpock and add items to your watchlist without allowing your location services. You can do this by setting your manual location (see: “Browse with your manual location”).

“Browse with your manual location”

Q: What can I do on Shpock with my manually set location?

With your manual location set, you can browse through millions of items on Shpock and add items to your watchlist for future reference. You can explore interesting items on your Discover screen, or look for something specific by using search filters.

When it comes to interactions, buying, or selling an item on Shpock, you would still need to turn on your location. This is a safety feature that we currently require, and only shows your approximate location. Your approximate location will never be shared with a seller.

Selling on Shpock

“Selling is easy as 1, 2, 3”

Q: How does selling on Shpock work?

Do you have things that you don't need or want anymore, or want to earn some extra cash? Go to sell: upload pictures of your actual item, write a title and a short description. Set a fair price – and you're ready to go!

“Marketplace of the highly desirable”

Q: What should be sold in Shpock?

Everything that has made you happy in the past or that you don't need in the future. Whether it's an old dresser, concert tickets that you cannot use yourself, a lovingly restored bike, your old favourite blouse, your used car, rare sunglasses or your Playstation game that is waiting for a new high score; Shpock is the marketplace for everything desirable.

“It should be appropriate and realistic”

Q: How do I set the right price?

Ask yourself the following question: What is the highest price I would pay for the product? The condition of the item and any flaws should be considered when setting the price. We especially appreciate: realistic and appropriate prices. Honesty plays a very important role for our users and us.

“Open for offers, but not free of charge”

Q: What if I want to receive bids?

Stating a 0,- sales price on your offered product gives the impression that you want to give it away for free. Therefore we request you to set an asking price, i.e. the price you would like to sell the product for. We want to prevent misunderstandings and increase your likelihood of selling your product.

“Both sides agree on the deal”

Q: When is the sale legally binding?

A legally binding agreement is entered when both sides agree on the deal, this means that one party accepts and the other confirms. Offers are not legally binding.

If you accept an offer from a buyer, the buyer will have to confirm the deal before it is binding. If you send a counter offer to the buyer and he/she accepts, you will have to confirm the deal before it is binding.

“Cancel if you can't sell”

Q: When can I cancel a deal?

You can cancel a deal until the deal has been confirmed by you or the interested buyer. After a deal has been confirmed you can no longer cancel the deal, and you have entered a legally binding agreement to sell your product.

“Cancelled deal? Wait for offers”

Q: Can I get in touch with a buyer after I cancelled a deal?

After a deal has been cancelled you can no longer contact the buyer, but you can receive new offers on your item from the same and other users. Make a counter offer if you have other pending offers to sell your product faster.

“Oops, something went wrong”

Q: How can I relist my item after it has been sold?

There is a possibility that you and your partner are unable to come to an agreement when it comes the the deal. In such a case, the best way forward could be to cancel the deal mutually and relist the item in order to find a new buyer quickly.

It works like this: tap on the three-doted symbol in the top right corner of the chat and select “relist item”. A few seconds later the item will be back up for sale and all users that have shown interest in the item prior to the sale will be notified – this will increase your chances of quickly finding a new buyer.

“Update your product info – simple as that”

Q: How can I edit my listings?

Go to your product under the heading “Selling” in your profile, click “Edit” to change information about your ad such as title, description, price and category. After getting an offer on your ad, you may no longer change your price in the ad, but you can make a counter offer to the interested buyer. If you want to change the location of your item, you can just go to the edit menu and tap on the “update” button in the bottom of the screen.

“A great community”

“You, your pet & Shpock!”

Q: With a heavy heart I’m giving up my pet. How do I do it right?

Although selling a living creature is forbidden, separate rules are applicable for offering and selling pets on Shpock in the UK, Germany, Italy and Sweden. In these countries the offering and selling of pets are allowed but must comply with the following rules:

  • The description or the picture of the pet should be chosen wisely and with respect.
  • The buyer needs to be informed about the age, diseases or any kind of abnormal characteristics of the pet

Furthermore the following points are prohibited when selling a pet:

  • Selling pets to users younger than 18 years.
  • Street sales or offering, requesting or confirming postal deliveries of pets.
  • Selling protected species and compounds without the necessary documents. For more information have a look at the protected species and sites.
  • Selling exotic, dangerous and poisonous animals.
  • Selling pets with any controversial surgeries which are not mandatory for the pet’s health (ie. ear-cropping, tail docking, devocalization, claws or teeth removal). Requesting such surgeries is strictly prohibited.
  • Selling pets which are located in another country or selling pets as live food.
  • Professional breeding."
  • Selling of multiple different species or selling pets in huge quantities, as this conflicts with the proper treatment of animals.
  • Selling pets before they reach an appropriate age. The minimum age for puppies and kittens is 12 weeks or older. The mother animal is on site when you pick up it up.

Users selling pets are obliged to get informed about the legal regulations and are forced to comply with them. If you notice a pet ad that does not comply with the rules, please report it via the “report” function on the respective ad page. Further information regarding animal welfare can be found in each country’s specific regulations: United Kingdom, Germany, and for the EU.

When selling your pet please also take into account the following highly important information:

  • Pets are not products, fashion accessories or toys!
  • When selling your pet you must act responsibly and treat your pet with respect.
  • Please fully inform the buyer about any diseases, health problems, special requirements or behavioural traits your pet may have.
  • Your main intention must be to find a loving and caring new home for your pet – not to make a profit!
  • It is advisable to set up a short interview with any prospective new owners, to make sure your pet is going to a loving home with the right person.

We hope you will find a loving new home for your pet soon!

“Shipping and payment – easy and secure”

Q: Safe payment when meeting in person/shipping?

At Shpock, we advise meeting in person as the safest and quickest way to exchange both money and item.

  • Location: Both parties agree on a suitable time and location for the transaction to be completed.
  • Product: If buying the item, please check the condition of the product is in line with how it was advertised on Shpock before handing over money.
  • Important Note: Please be aware that if payment was made via PayPal but the item picked up in person, the seller will not be covered by PayPal’s Seller Protection Scheme. For more information on PayPal seller protection click here.

If you do not meet in person to hand over the product, but arrange to ship it, here are some tips regarding payment and delivery:

  • Pay on delivery: With this payment method, e.g. available at UPS, the goods will only be handed over to the buyer when paying the agreed price to the delivery man.
  • PayPal: The whole payment process will be performed via your PayPal account. The money will be debited from the buyer's credit card/bank account and will be credited to the seller. Then the seller will ship the item to you. Clear advantages: The seller benefits from fast payment. The buyer enjoys special protection in case he should not receive the item from the seller. For more information on the PayPal buyer protection click here.
    • Important note: Every PayPal account has to be assigned to a unique and active E-mail account. Are you planning to handle your next sale/purchase via PayPal? Please make sure the PayPal account belongs to the user you are talking to. Please be cautious when the partner you are trading with insists on using the PayPal of a third party.
    • We also strongly advise to refrain from using the Friends & Family service. This way the deal can be followed up with more security for both users.

“The package should arrive intact”

Q: How do I send items secure and in a correct way?

Offering shipping is not mandatory, do this if you prefer to ship your items and if you have enough time. To prevent misunderstandings and long explanations we recommend stating this in your item description, and specify how you offer shipping and who should pay for it.

If a buyer makes an offer “including shipping” he offers to pay for the shipping costs – however, he already includes them in the price he offered to pay for the item.

Even if it sometimes means an extra effort, it can be quite beneficial to ship the item insured or at least traceable because a lost parcel is annoying for both parties. Therefore it is also very important to keep the shipping receipt or the receipt from the post office until the deal is finally completed.

Please keep in mind that higher-valued items should be posted via insured shipping. If you are not sure whether you should post your item insured or not, we suggest to clarify the matter with the buyer.

“Self-made things or products designed by you for the Shpock YoungDesigner category”

Q: How do I become a YoungDesigner on Shpock?

Shpock loves to support young brands and talented designers in our special “YoungDesigner” category. This category has grown into a beautiful space of innovative designs and creative products, and we couldn't be happier about it! If you are a YoungDesigner and would like to join in, please write a short email telling us a little something about your work at YoungDesigner@shpock.com.

Needless to say we do ask you meet certain criteria when submitting work to the “YoungDesigner” category. Images of your item(s) should be shot in front of a plain background, be very well lit and with the focus being on the products themselves.

All submissions will be taken into consideration by the Shpock team. If you are successful in becoming a Shpock YoungDesigner, your profile picture will receive an orange badge with the title “YoungDesigner”. You will also have the chance to add your own General Terms and Conditions under MyShpock – Settings – Your Terms and Conditions. All money from your sales goes directly to you. It is totally free to become a YoungDesigner.

Buying on Shpock

“Buying easy as pie”

Q: How does buying on Shpock work?

If you know exactly what you want to buy you can use our search function. In order to search more precisely you can add different filters by tapping on the filter button in the top right-hand corner. If you are looking for inspiration we have special selections, new items in your area and categories you can find in our menu.
When you find something you're interested in, from the item screen, you can tap on “Ask Question” to ask a public question or “Private Offer” to make an offer with a price you think is fair to pay, with an optional personal message to the seller. Wait for the seller to respond to your offer and finalise the deal.

“Both sides agree on the deal”

Q: When have I legally agreed to buy an item?

A legally binding agreement is entered when both sides agree on the deal, this means that one party accepts and the other confirms. Just making an offer is not legally binding.

If the seller accepts your offer, you will have to confirm the deal before it is binding. You can respond to the seller's counter offer with another counter offer or accept his offer, then he/she will have to confirm the deal before it is binding.

Keep in mind that after the deal has been confirmed all conditions are legally binding. Therefore we advise you to clarify the basic conditions via the offer's dialogue. Possible questions to clarify could be:

  • Does the buyer have to pick up the item personally or can it be shipped?
  • Which shipment method do you want? (insured or uninsured)
  • Who will pay for the shipment?
  • Which payment methods are available? (Recommended: PayPal with buyer protection)

Also it is important to inform your partner about foreseeable delays for the deal beforehand. As an example, if you know that you won't be available for a few days because of a trip, it is important for the buyer to know it as well. This way the deal can be followed up by both sides in a satisfying manner.

“Cancel deals you don't want”

Q: When should I cancel a deal?

You can cancel a deal until the deal has been confirmed by you or the seller. After a deal has been confirmed you can no longer cancel the deal, and you have entered into a legally binding agreement to buy the product.

When you have bought the product you want, and have several offers on similar products that you no longer want, you must cancel these deals. If you have already accepted deals on such products, it is important that you cancel these before the seller confirms if you no longer want the product. If not, you have legally bought the product when the seller confirms.

You can cancel deals in the dialogue with the seller by using the “cancel” button if the deal is awaiting confirmation, or in the options button (three dots) in the upper right corner. You can also cancel by clicking the “x” on the product picture in your watchlist.

“Better luck the second time around”

Q: Can I send a new offer to a seller after cancelling a deal?

You can send a new offer to the seller after cancelling the deal, this will open as a completely new offer and not in the same dialogue as your cancelled offer. Write a nice message to the seller, and your chances that he/she will accept your offer are higher.

“Make an offer to make a deal”

Q: Why doesn't my last deal show up in my sales and buys?

Using the “Question” function you may get in touch with other users, exchange information about the product and even agree on a meeting point. In order to “officially” close the deal, use the “Make an offer” function to make and accept an offer - then it will show up in your profile as a new sale or that you have bought something.

“Agile as the post”

Q: How much time do I have to expect for delivery?

According to our experience the average shipping time is between 5 and 10 days. Since all deals are private sales it's unrealistic to expect shipping times like Amazon offers.

“Make an offer - exchange your info”

Q: Can I send a private message?

To communicate with a seller you may either ask questions about the item open for everyone to see or use the “Make an offer” function. If you want to ask something private before making your offer, make a 0 offer stating that this is only to exchange private information and have a private conversation with the seller. You may continue that chat after an offer is accepted to agree on a pickup point and other practicalities.

“You and your new family member!”

Q: What should I consider before buying a pet?

Please take this important information into account before buying a pet:

  • You are not allowed to buy a pet on Shpock if you are younger than 18 years.
  • Pets are not products, fashion accessories or toys – but living creatures just like us!
  • Pets are social beings which belong to your family. When buying a pet you should bear it in mind that they need care, love and time – like you and me!
  • Before buying a pet please make sure that you can offer it a home for life. If you go on holiday or get sick you will need to provide it with alternative accommodation.
  • Please note that purchasing an animal means a bigger investment than just the initial cost. Please take the time to consider vet bills, food and other living costs.
  • You should not buy a pet out of pity.
  • A pet is not to be delivered by mail or in any other way which is likely to harm, distress or endanger the animal.
  • You do not demand or support any controversial pet surgeries (e.g. ear-cropping, tail docking, devocalization, claws or teeth removal).
  • You can identify a reliable seller or registered breeder by the following criteria:
    • Pets are sold at an appropriate age. Minimum age for puppies and kittens is 12 weeks.
    • A professional breeder is able to show you proof of his breeding site.
    • Pets are handed over to their new owners at the seller’s residence. Street sales and postal deliveries are NOT acceptable.
    • The mother animal is on site when you pick up a puppy or kitten.
    • The seller offers only one breed. A wide variety of available breeds indicates a questionable seller. The seller ensures the well-being of the animals and can show his/her license and provide the medical records of any animal on their site.

For further information please refer to the country-specific animal welfare regulations for United Kingdom, Germany and the EU.

Enjoy your time with your new pet!

“My new home”

Q: How can I prepare myself when looking to purchase or rent property?

Before purchasing or renting property we would like to give you some valuable tips:

  • Be aware of your financial situation. Before you rent an apartment or buy a house, please be aware of any and all additional costs that can arise. Please note that the initial purchase price does not include additional costs.
  • Please do not send any money towards the rent or a deposit until you have actually viewed the apartment or house - keep in mind that a serious landlord wants to meet his potential tenant in person.
  • Please take note of any deficiencies when viewing the property and point them out to the seller or landlord. It is best to have a friend by your side when going to view the apartment or house.
  • Once you have viewed the property, make sure to finalise the deal with a written contract between yourself and the seller/ landlord.

The news stream will help you to keep an overview over all of your activities within Shpock. When you navigate to your My Shpock and go to the tab “News”, all relevant activities such as questions, offers and chat messages will be displayed. All news stream messages will automatically disappear after 14 days - if you want to keep an item in mind for longer than that, it is best to add it to your watch list.

To facilitate you in the repeated search of a specific item, your last three searches will always be saved. These will be deleted automatically after a while or whenever you logout of your account.

“The stars don't lie”

Q: How can I review my partner?

After a successful deal (i.e. after the product was paid for/picked up/delivered) you can review him directly below the chat, whereby you can give a total of 5 stars. If you had a nice and smooth transaction with the user he will be happy about receiving 5 stars. :-)

Please don't review a deal too early as a given review indicates that the deal has been completed for you. Often this cannot be changed retrospectively. If you think to have received an unjustified review, then please feel free to reach out to us through our contact form.

“Save the best for last”

Q: When shall I review my partner?

A review marks the deal as complete and should therefore only be submitted after both partners have received their money or the goods. Please don't review a deal too early since it's often not possible to correct this afterwards.

“Take a look at your reviews”

Q: Where can I see my reviews?

In the app please choose “My Shpock -> Profile” - now you have two options.

  • Next to your profile picture you can see your overall rating. To view each review individually, simply tap on the stars.
  • In the directory below you can find a subject entitled “Your reviews”. By tapping on it you will be able to view ratings individually.

Q: I have received an unjustified review. Can it be deleted?

Have you received a bad review even though everything worked out great with the deal? Then please get in touch with us via the contact form and we will look into the case. If the review has been given unjustly from our point of view, we will remove it and inform you.

“Whoops, that was not meant like that”

Q: I have inadvertently given a wrong review. Can this be corrected?

We want to point out again that we kindly ask you to refrain from reviewing a deal before the transaction has been finalized. Please get in touch with us via the contact form and we will evaluate the review and eventually delete or undo it.

“Help is at hand”

Q: I have an issue with another user. What can I do?

If there are any misunderstandings or problems on a deal then please report this to us via the report-function through the app. In order to report the user please click on the three dots in the top right corner of the app and choose “Report partner”.

Important: Please choose the correct reason - this way we'll be able to properly handle your case. Reports through the app have many advantages because we will be provided with all the necessary information especially if there are any uncertainties during the deal.

If you have any issues with a public question, then you can tap on the three dots on the right next to the questions and choose “remove + report user”.

“We can only help with the right information”

Q: I want to report a user. When do I pick which reason?

Unfortunately, issues may arise from time to time. Of course, our support team will try to assist in every case - therefore it is important that you report every case correctly.

You can report a case by tapping on the three-doted symbol in the top right corner of the chat and selecting “report user as suspicious”. Please make sure to add a brief description of the issue in the report.

You may select one of the following reasons:

  • Buyer does not pay: Your buyer does not pay even though you've already sent the item.
  • Seller did not send the goods: Your seller did not send the goods even though you have already paid for it.
  • Damaged or does not match the description: The goods you received after the purchase / swap do not match to what was described on the product page and / or on the pictures.
  • Your partner is not interested anymore: Your partner does not reply anymore or he wants to cancel the deal without your consent.

“The Shop in your Pocket”

Q: What does the term Shpock mean?

Shpock is a motley name and means "Shop in your Pocket". As a smartphone app, Shpock – The local way to sell and buy beautiful things, is the shop you always carry in your pocket.

“Buy and sell second hand”

Q: What's the App's purpose?

Start the iPhone, iPad or Android app and you can instantly buy or sell used and extraordinary items. If you're lucky, you might even find a free offer in your area while browsing through the items in your neighbourhood.

Second hand, DIY, used or simply beautiful. If you're not looking to buy or sell something in particular, just rummage through the pictures and get inspired. Be it from the charm of an old photo camera, a rare piece of furniture or a fancy piece of clothing.

“Smartphone enables easy and mobile boot sale”

Q: How did you come up with the idea?

In every town there is a boot sale, and online you can find marketplaces, classifieds portals, used goods forums and second-hand markets for each topic. As fans of the old and extraordinary, we have tried them all through the years. Unfortunately, they all have one thing in common. Over time, the loyal community was getting smaller and the buying and selling process became more complicated. More and more power sellers, spammers and people who have no good intentions, contributed to the fact, that the initial charm of these portals was lost.

Sitting together in a small group we talked about how nice it would be to have a simple and portable yard sale! Shpock was born. In the beginning, it was all about the easy exchange of stuff with friends.

What began as a small idea has quickly drawn us into the spell, and we all invested time, passion, and creativity to build something great. One thing was clear, if Shpock is the local way to sell and buy beautiful things, Shpock needs to be beautiful too - both as an Android App and iOS App.

“Free Classifieds”

Q: Free classifieds: is this really true?

Save the best for last: Shpock is absolutely free! Your options for negotiating, swapping, buying, selling and bartering in this particular market are endless.

“I just really love Shpock”
